Mathematics of Language 2025
August 16 & 17, 2025
Stony Brook University (Stony Brook, NY, USA)

The ACL Special Interest Group Mathematics of Language invites submissions to its biennial conference, MOL, which will be hosted by Stony Brook University on August 16 & 17, 2025.

The submission deadline is April 4, 2025.

Scope

Mathematics of Language is concerned with the study of mathematical structures and methods that are of importance to the study of language. It includes work at every level of linguistic structure, and involves applications of both discrete and continuous maths, as well as statistics.

Mathematics of Language 2025 is open to submissions that engage with one or more aspects of the mathematics of language. Potential topics include but are not limited to:

  • formal language theory and its applications to natural language
  • formal analysis of linguistic theories and frameworks
  • model-theoretic and proof-theoretic methods in linguistics
  • algebraic methods in linguistics
  • learnability and grammatical inference
  • computational models of linguistic cognition
  • formal models of language use and language change
  • empirical analyses using formally-minded frameworks (e.g. CCG, MGs, TAG)
  • mathematical foundations of modern computational linguistics (e.g. neural networks)

Papers presented at recent iterations of MOL are accessible in the open-access proceedings series.

Submission details

We invite submissions of papers that cover original, previously unpublished material in mathematical linguistics. Each submissions will be reviewed by at least three (3) members of the program committee. Papers presented at the conference will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be published in MOL’s ACL Anthology series. We expect accepted submissions to be presented in-person.

  • Submissions must be prepared using the ACL style files.
  • Simultaneous submission to other conferences is permitted, provided the authors indicate which other conference(s) the paper is submitted to. A paper is accepted on the condition that it will not be presented at any other venue.
  • Submissions must not exceed twelve (12) pages of technical content, but may have an unlimited number of extra pages for references (e.g. experimental stimuli).
  • There is no limit on the number of submissions per author.

MOL 2025 uses the EasyChair conference management system for submission, reviewing and preparation of proceedings:

Submissions must be uploaded to this system electronically in PDF format by the submission deadline listed below.
